BlackBerry Torch 9800 300x193 Blackberry Torch, Blackberry Curve and Blackberry Pearl Comparison

Blackberry phones used to be more or less exclusively for business where they were a status symbol of executive importance, however, those days are gone and Blackberry has firmly established itself in the consumer sector of the market. In terms of email connectivity and the RIM network, Blackberry phones still score very highly and for users who wish to use their phones in both their work and in their social life, Blackberry phones provide an excellent solution.

Here we will compare some of the leading models; the Blackberry Torch, the Blackberry Pearl and the Blackberry Curve.

The Blackberry Torch has the largest display offering 480 by 360 pixels. The Pearl comes second with 360 by 400 pixels, and the Curve has 320 by 240 pixels.

The Torch has a sliding physical QWERTY keyboard; the Curve has one which is permanently exposed; and the Pearl has only a multi-entry keyboard.

In terms of physical dimensions there is not very much to choose when the Torch is closed, but the Torch extends an extra 37mm. It is also considerably heavier than the other two models.

The Torch has the best camera which offers 5 megapixels, considerably better than the 2 megapixel camera on the Curve and the 3.2 megapixel camera on the Pearl. The Torch and the Pearl have a camera flash, whist the Curve does not.

All three phones have GPS, Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. In terms of Bluetooth the Torch is the most advanced offering Bluetooth v2.1 with enhanced data rate (EDR), PBAP, A2DP, AVCRP and DUN. The Curve has Bluetooth v2.0 with A2DP and AVCRP whilst the Pearl has only basic Bluetooth V2.0.

They all have trackpad navigation and dedicated media keys and all offer full email integration.

In terms of battery life there is little to choose between any of the models. The all offer either 30 or 29 hours of music playback, 18 to 19 days of standby time, and 4.5 to 5.5 hours of talk time.
